SECRET PROJECTS…
More funky biz revealed!
I’ve been teasing some new stuff for a while so I thought I’d give a few more details on what’s going on behind the scenes.
First thing- above all, my main focus is KAYA. That’s my baby. I’m in the middle of the fifth story arc right now and as I’ve said a few times online, the plan is for eight books total. I’ve been able to keep up the schedule so far on a nearly monthly basis and that’ll stay the same. I’m taking on a crazy schedule this year to get these extra projects done, but I promise, Kaya’s going to keep on chugging along. That girl will NOT be stopped, folks!
Here’s me trying to keep up with it all:
Trying real hard to harness the powers of Jack Kirby here, folks. Jack, give me the strength to get all this work done. Give me your CRACKLLLLLEEE!
I have one thing planned for a few months from now that’ll help me keep up with this crazy 2025 schedule. I haven’t talked about it publicly, but I have a super cool KAYA SPECIAL coming up around September. It’s an over-sized, jam packed issue with some of the best artists in comics. I’ll have more details in the coming months about that. It’s gonna be a blast.
So, on to the other two things I’m working on-
PROJECT 38
I’m writing and drawing a series for DC Comics that’ll feature my favorite superhero. It’s an out of continuity, six-issues series. Part of the DC Black Label line of books. The people at DC were able to give me a long enough deadline that I could keep KAYA coming out regularly. That was a top priority as I mentioned above. And I thought it was very cool that DC would be so accommodating on that. All thanks to my editor on the series, Andrew Marino. Good dude.
Expect full details around the end of 2025. It’ll be hitting shops around March of next year. The only other thing I can say on this one is that it’s a story that’s been kicking around in my head, demanding to be told, for YEARS. So when DC gave me the chance, I knew it was going too be tough to spin all these plates at the same time, but I felt like this was the moment to do it, and there was no guarantee that after Kaya was wrapped up, that the opportunity would still be there, so I’m finding a way to make it work and so far, I’ll be honest, I’m really proud of it.
Here’s a sneak peek:
Up next, PROJECT KOOL-AID
This is a series I’ll be writing, with art by the amazing Kevin Castaniero (“You’ve Been Canceled”). Colors by Mike Spicer (he worked with me on the DC All-In Special, and a lot of beautiful stuff with Daniel Warren Johnston) + Kelly Fitzpatrick (beatiful work on Shade The Changing Woman), and lettering by my Kaya collaborator Tom Napolitano.
It’s trippy. It’s superheroes. It’s Kickstarter. My first foray into the world of crowd funding, actually. I’ll be helped out on it by my buddies Andy Belanger and Karl Kerschl, founders of Lethal Comics where they work on Mother Trucker, and Death Transit Tanager (the third issue of that series is currently doing gangbusters on Kickstarter as we speak and is about to finish, go over and get yourself a copy right NOW. )
Here’s a peek at Kevin’s art for Project Kool-Aid (Colors: Mike Spicer)
That’s what’s keeping me super busy for this year. No conventions for ol’ Wes this year! Just nose to the grindstone, trying to make some cool stuff for everybody. As always, thank you SO MUCH for the support you’ve shown me. It’s much appreciated. Stay tuned to Lethal Comics on social media and (and Me, Karl, and Andy) for more info on Project Kool-Aid in the next few days.
All will be revealed, my lovelies…
